Getting Started in Silicon Valley

Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to live and work in Silicon Valley as a French professional building relationships across the technology ecosystem.

Since moving to California, I have attended hundreds of events, conferences, university talks, startup gatherings, and industry meetups throughout San Francisco, Palo Alto, Stanford, Mountain View, and the broader Bay Area. Along the way, I have met founders, engineers, investors, researchers, students, and professionals from around the world who are contributing to one of the most dynamic innovation ecosystems on the planet.

As I shared more of my experiences online, a number of people began reaching out to me with similar questions:

How does Silicon Valley really work?

How do you meet the right people?

Which events are actually worth attending?

How different is the American business culture?

What should I know before moving here?

How do startups, venture capital firms, universities, and technology companies interact with each other?

How can a newcomer build meaningful relationships and become part of the ecosystem?

I don’t claim to have all the answers.

I am still learning every day.

However, after spending significant time navigating the Bay Area, attending events across industries, building professional relationships, and experiencing life here firsthand, I have accumulated observations and lessons that may be useful to others considering a similar journey.

If you are:

  • A student interested in studying or building a career in Silicon Valley
  • An entrepreneur exploring the U.S. market
  • A professional considering a move to California
  • A founder looking to better understand the local ecosystem
  • Simply curious about life and work in the Bay Area

I would be happy to share my experience.

Topics I am particularly familiar with include:

  • Silicon Valley and Bay Area ecosystems
  • Technology and startup communities
  • Artificial intelligence and infrastructure
  • Edge computing and data centers
  • Professional networking
  • Conferences, events, and communities
  • Stanford and the broader university ecosystem
  • Relocating from Europe to California
  • Building a professional network in the United States

My goal is simple: help people better understand Silicon Valley, avoid common mistakes, and accelerate their learning curve.
