Inside Garry’s List: Discussing California’s Future with Governor Newsom

One of the most interesting aspects of living in Silicon Valley is realizing that innovation is not only built inside startups, research labs, or venture capital firms. It is also shaped by public policy, local communities, and civic engagement.

Over the past year, I have become involved with Garry’s List, a community initiative launched by Garry Tan, CEO of Y Combinator. The organization brings together founders, investors, engineers, and residents to discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing San Francisco and California.

Through these discussions, I have participated in conversations on public safety, housing, economic development, transportation, and the future of technology. What makes these conversations valuable is the diversity of perspectives involved. Entrepreneurs, policymakers, community leaders, and citizens often disagree on the solutions, but share a common goal: improving California for future generations.

This month, Garry’s List is hosting a discussion with Governor Gavin Newsom focused on AI, innovation, entrepreneurship, and California’s role in shaping the future of technology. At a time when artificial intelligence is transforming industries and creating new opportunities, the decisions made by state leaders will have a lasting impact on innovation and economic growth.

As someone working at the intersection of technology and infrastructure, I find these conversations particularly fascinating. They remind me that progress is not only about building great products. It is also about creating the institutions, policies, and communities that allow innovation to thrive responsibly.

California’s future will not be determined by politicians alone or entrepreneurs alone. It will be shaped by the interaction between both worlds. That is precisely why initiatives like Garry’s List matter.
